String of Hearts
Botanical Name: Ceropegia Woodii
Popularly known as String of Hearts, Ceropegia Woodii is native to southern Africa (which includes South Africa, of course). It owes its common name to its small, heart-shaped leaves, which are variegated in shades of deep green and light green. The String of Hearts will also produce tiny purple flowers, but the leaves of the String of Hearts are undoubtedly the main attraction of the plant. The String of Hearts is a plant with trailing vines, which makes it perfect for hanging baskets.
The String of Hearts needs a warm climate, with surrounding temperatures not falling below 15 degrees Celsius. It should be kept in partial shade, though this should be a light shade. The String of Hearts must only be watered when the soil is completely dry, and excess water must be removed swiftly following this. Soils which retain moisture can be extremely damaging to the String of Hearts.
