Philodendron Birds’ Nest /Autumn

Philodendron Birds’ Nest /Autumn

The Philodendron has the second largest number of species in any genus in the Araceae family.

Though the specific number is unknown, Philodendrons usually have very large leaves and the appearance of leaves on a single plant can vary dramatically as maturation of Philodendron leaves does not occur uniformly across the plant.

The berries on Philodendron plants are often toxic. Philodendrons are native to the American tropics.

Although Philodendron plants don’t like complete sun or complete shade, they grow well in almost any light, and a slower than expected rate of growth can almost always be remedied by increasing the amount of light it receives.

Philodendron Birds’ Nest /Autumn

Botanical Name: Philodendron Birds’ Nest /Autumn

The Copper Birds’ Nest Philodendron, or Philodendron Autumn, is a hybrid plant whose leaves vary in colour, with some being green and others being reddish gold, depending on the level of maturation.  Usually, these plants have a cluster of leaves in the centre surrounded by another ring of leaves growing closer to the soil, imitating the concentric pattern seen in some birds’ nests. These are usually around three feet tall.

These plants enjoy partial shade, as most Philodendrons do.  The Birds’ Nest likes to have a humid environment. Owners should take care to ensure that the Birds’ Nest’s container has drainage holes and its soil is well-draining.  The top of the soil should not still be moist between each watering. As this plant is evergreen, owners should adjust heat and light if it begins to wilt.
